Location: Santa Barbara, California, United States

I am a Landscape Architect and own my own design firm, True Nature, in Santa Barbara. I am interested in sustainability, ecological and historic restoration, water quality, water conservation, and lowering automobile dependency with green design for numerous reasons. These values enrich my design work by igniting creativity and a desire to make places that people will enjoy and want to care for. I also enjoy watercolor painting, kayaking, and hiking around beautiful Santa Barbara.

Sorrento

After heading 'home' to Castiglion Fiorentino for a couple of days, it was time to head off for Fall Break. Dave and Laurie had rented a car, and Sarah and I tagged along in the back seat. We literally flew McIntosh Airlines (Dave drives fast) to the Amalfi Coast in three hours..probably a record.

We made it to the Amalfi and stopped for lunch...here's the view out the window.

We drove the whole coast and ended up in Sorrento, where we would be staying for the next two nights.

We began our tradition of getting a bottle of champagne upon check-in. Joel, Maria and Michelle had stayed at this hotel earlier on the trip and recommended it to us...great job! Check out that view! It was perched right on the cliff.

The next day Sarah and I explored. We found this nice garden in a hotel.

This was some sort of art school. Students were exhibiting water color paintings. I loved the scale of this courtyard, and the grape arbors on the second floor.

The narrow streets were beautiful. We had lunch upstairs on the left...they had a great rooftop garden full of citrus trees (below).

We then wandered to the beach below town. Note all of the old arches and buildings built right into the cliffs. This was pretty common throughout the coast.

I loved this building...the Virginia Creeper vine was going off right then.

The Lemoncello garden was nice. It's an organic community citrus garden where they make lemoncello, an after dinner drink (digestivi).

The docks were all closed, so we crawled under them to get to the end of the beach. We were intgrigued by the caves at the end and had to get there.

Made it out to the dock!

Bella Sarah

That night, Sarah and Kim did Karaoke for the first time! They thought I was from Spain and had me sing Corazon Espinado by Santana at first...all in Spanish! By the third or fourth spanish song, they figured out I wasn't from Spain! Then Sarah joined me for some Beatles tunes.

The next morning we awoke to Mount Vesuvius! This view is from our hotel.
