Here are some sketches I've done recently. Just click on the image to bring up a larger picture in a new window. This first one is the Neptune Fountain at the Villa Lante. I worked on this one for just under an hour sitting on the gravel in front of the fountain.
Now this was a real quickie....I was standing up in the Dolomites waiting for a bus to Cortina. It's not done yet, but what you see was completed in under 20 minutes while standing and bantering with my companions. Pretty loose for me. I think I started to get values with an ink pen on this one....
This one was done in Venice the morning after my painting epipony. Again, something has happened and I'm getting loose and quick. I sat on a bench in front of the Biennale and whipped this one out in less than a half hour. I was really feeling this one.
Another unfinished sketch...someday I'll come back and fill these in! I think it's off to a pretty good start, though. I'm finally getting the strategy down of outlining the major forms lightly with pencil, then coming back in with ink to pick up the details and value. This one was done on the dock at Positano while waiting for the boat to Capri.
