Rome
On Thursday we went on Phil Pregill's Death March through Rome. We started at the Pantheon at 7 am for a cappuccino and croissant.
Next stop was the Palatine Hill, where the Roman Senate building was located. During the Renaissance, Michelangelo added buildings to create a trapezoid-shape plaza. The piazza shape is oval, and is thought to be the first forced perspective plaza. Pretty incredible.
The Arch of Tiberius leads into the Roman Forum.
The coluseum is at the end of the forum complex.
This old theater is still used today.
At about 10:30 am we had made it back into the city to the Trevi Fountain. Ken Nakaba had his first gelato of the day here. He sure looks happy!
Spanish Steps
These twin churches provided symmetry to the entrance of Rome during the Renaissance. Notice the intense perspective created down the main streets which radiate out from this plaza.
